The Island's Buses Launch 10 Brand-New Enviro400 MMCs

The Island's Buses has today unveiled 10 brand-new Alexander Dennis Enviro400 MMC double-deckers, set to operate primarily on Routes 1A and 1B, connecting Newport and Cowes. These buses represent a major step forward in comfort, technology, and sustainability for passengers across the Isle of Wight.

Next-Generation Design

Built to the new GoBus South Coast custom specification, the 11-metre Enviro400 MMCs feature a handrail-less interior (except where required for health and safety, such as up the stairs), skylights on the upper deck, mood lighting, and digital interior advertising displays. Passengers will enjoy a cleaner, more open, and modern travel experience, while drivers benefit from new-generation cabs, improved stop-start technology, and mirrorless systems.

Investment in a Greener Future

The arrival of these buses is part of a £50 million investment in new, more eco-friendly vehicles across the GoBus South Coast network, demonstrating The Island's Buses' commitment to greener and more sustainable public transport.

Shay, Director of The Island's Buses, said: "These new buses aren't just about looking good - they're about transforming the way people experience bus travel on the Island. Comfort, sustainability, and cutting-edge technology have driven every decision in their design. Our passengers deserve a journey that's modern, reliable, and enjoyable - and that's exactly what these vehicles deliver."

Passengers on Routes 1A and 1B can look forward to a significant upgrade in service quality, seating, and onboard experience, making journeys between Newport and Cowes more pleasant than ever.
